Problems with "Your Connection Has Slowed" Error Message, and Blurry or Choppy Video
- Make sure that no one else is connecting wireless devices to your wireless router. This is often the problem if your wireless router is not password protected. Someone connected to your wireless router without your permission could be pulling down large amounts of data that could be drastically reducing the amount of bandwidth available for streaming Netflix content on your Nintendo Wii.
- If other devices in your house connected to your Internet connection are pulling downloading large amounts of data, this will also limit the amount of bandwidth available for streaming Netflix content on your Nintendo Wii.
- Open your Web browser and navigate to Speedtest.net and click "Begin Test." Wait while the program tests the speed of your wireless connection. After the test is done, the results of the test will be displayed. If your Download Speed is less than 1 megabyte per second (Mbps), Netflix on your Nintendo Wii will be prone to experiencing problems with blurriness, pixelation and constantly stopping to buffer. If you think you should be receiving better bandwidth speeds, contact your Internet service provider. Alternatively, if you're in a lower-bandwidth plan, consider contacting your ISP about upgrading to a higher-bandwidth plan.
- Your Nintendo Wii may not be not be picking up a strong signal from your wireless router. Try moving your Nintendo Wii closer to your wireless router to see if that reduces the problems you're experiencing with streaming Netflix content. If the walls in your house are thick and there are multiple walls between the Nintendo Wii and the wireless router, this can also reduce the strength of the signal that makes it to your Nintendo Wii.
- Remove electrical device that can send and receive a signal, such as radios and cell phones, from near the wireless router or the Nintendo Wii. These types of devices can interfere with the wireless router's ability to send a signal and the Nintendo Wii's ability to receive one, which affects the ability of the Wii to stream Netflix content. Also, ensure there are no large metal objects, such as filing cabinets, between the two devices, as metal objects can also interfere with the signal. Also, high-power devices such as power tools or lamps can also interfere with the transmission of a signal between the two devices.
- Adjust the channel that your wireless router is broadcasting on. Because most wireless router's broadcast their signal on channel 6, try switching the channel the router is broadcasting on to 1 or 11. You can adjust the settings on your wireless router using the software that came with your router installed on your computer.
"This Title Is Temporarily Unavailable While We Improve the Media Quality" Error Message
This error message appears on the screen when Netflix is working on the quality of that particular title. Often, from the time Netflix begins working on titles to the time the title is working properly is generally 24 hours, however, it can take longer. If you've received the error for more than 24 hours, contact Netflix to inquire about the projected time to fix the problem.

When I downloaded netflix, and go to use it, I get the netflix "Are you a member" screen, and the handheld doesn't work. I cannot even go back to menu. I have to turn it off.
Hi Max I am having constant issues with NF streaming on my wii it constantly keeps having to stop and it has reached the point of past annoying.I checked that speed site last night on my wii and its below 1mb its o.8 something mb which stinks.
I have no idea how to fix this issue I am not good at this kind of thing so even the solutions above are unfortunately very confusing to me.
It does this with movies and tv shows now constantly having to rebuffer then shows a few minutes then rebuffers again .Im reaching the point of giving up on streaming permanently if its gonna be this bad it didnt used to be makes no sense to me.If you can help me I would greatly and truly appreciate it. Ty.
i keep getting "unable to connect to netflix. please try again or visit www.netflix.com/tvhelp" i can get netflix on the computer but it has stoped working on the wii. I've tryed errassing it and re-downloading the channel on the wii and have been on the phone with netflix several times and they dont seem to know what the problem is. do you know of anything else i can try? its not the internet connection or the wifi
My Netflix is constantly freezing today. I've had to unplug/replug in my Wii a dozen times already and it won't load. I turn the system on, everything is fine. I load other programs, everything is fine. I load Netflix, it shows the "working" bars, maybe goes to another "loading" screen, and then the screen goes black and my system is stuck
Thanks that worked for me! My Netflix also wouldn't load and made my screen go black or freeze. All good now :)
Thanks for the advice Max havent tried any of that yet but I did however go to that site you listed looks like a bad sign im afraid. :(
It said ping 40ms download speed 17.76mps upload speed 4.12mps.
The thing is I believe my wii is connected to my laptop but my router is connected to my computer in my room its connected to all of them basically so that part has me confused.
The laptop we have is old and has issues half the time freezes a lot so I am wondering if it would help to find a way to switch my internet connection to my computer which is fast and barely has any issues instead of my laptop. I have no idea how to go about that though im afraid.
Nope no computer is ever on when Im streaming the router and modem are still going but I think they are supposed to.I cant move the router either its underneath my computer on the bottom plugged up and my tv is a little away from the computer so the wii is nowhere close to it. :(
My wii will go to to the screen and I can even click on a movie but then, the place where you select "play" won't load and it says "we are having trouble playing this title right now, try again later"
Hello Max,
I'm able to start up my Wii system just fine (hooray) and also I'm able to connect to Netflix. It's then when I try to select a title of any show and/or movie that it takes some time in just trying to connect before reads back that I'm unable to connect to Netflix and that I should visit their site for help. I'm still rather lost as you can see. Anything you can think of as to why this happens?
Any suggestions help!
Ah, I didn't see the last reply to Brittany. Sorry for the repeat question!
I have the same issue. I found that if I go to my wii system memory and delete netflix from the memory with out removing it from my wii channel I can start netflix up and reactivate it and i can play movies just fine. but after i turn off the wii system and turn it back on i have the same issue happening.
I did erase the memory on my WII and now am able to watch movies again. However this is very frustrating. Is this going to be fixed. If not I think I will drop the Netflix service.
These problems that the last few people are having are the same as mine. Everything was fine and then BOOM nothing .. I have to delete the Channel and reinstall it to get it to work everytime i use it . something is happening to netflix or WII. I have had no recurrent problems untill the last few weeks. I can find nothing on the web about this. It was all fine and i made no changes to anything and it turned to crap. Why no help from NF or wii?
I have the exact same issue. "we are having trouble playing this title right now, try again later" I called Netflix and was directed to Nintendo 800-255-3700 and was told no fix exists at this time.
I am having the exact same problem, netflix works great until you shut the wii off, then when you turn it back on you have to unistall and reinstall the app to get it to work. Netflix support told me it was a new update from Nintendo that was causing the problem, Nintendo told me it was a netflix update that caused the problem. It is not a wireless issue as my router is beside the wii and all my other devices work fine, my download speed is 8.6 mbps. I am still on the free trial, but if I have to do this every time I turn the wii off, as much as I like Netflix, it is simply not worth the hassle. Any suggestions anyone?
i have no problems with the 3ds handhelds. ive talked to other people who have xbox and have no issues. its just the wii system. also im not sure about nintendo but netflix has been making changes and updating their content. i haven't really noticed a wii system update in a while i would have to guess it is netflix that has caused an issue.
I did try the erase the app and the saved info on my Wii. After re-downloading the app and putting my account info in, it worked like a charm, twice. It then crashed about 5 minutes into a browsing session. It must have something to do with this latest update because I had no issues before this. This is not my only way to watch netflix, just the one in my bedroom. I have a backup computer that I use in there and just move stuff around and use it. As most know, it is really frustrating to watch a great service slowly fall apart.
This has been going on for more than a week. Had three conversations with Netflix. Did everything they suggested - no help. Talked with the cable company several times - not an internet issue. Even put my Wii "outside" the firewall to prevent any interference - still not working properly for Netflix. (But I can google search via the Wii, so seems like a Netflix issue.)
We can stream Netflix on our other device, which is upstairs, away from the router. The Wii is about 8 feet from the router, nothing in between, and still having issues. And I've had this service for at least 2 years. This is the very first time I've had a problem.
Not a happy camper.
thanks max,
there is not a whole lot you can do with netflix on the wii. no settings to modify. basically download, activate, and watch, uninstall and reactivate. it just seems like something is not shutting down correctly with netflix when you turn the wii off. if only we could modify netflix or wii settings then maybe we can get it to work until they fix the issue ( a bandaid fix ).
Have had netflix on the Wii for as long as it has been available with no problems, then for the past two weeks the same thing has been happening to me. It'll load to the point where I can chose Netflix or Netflix for Kids then when I click on one it won't load, or if it does it won't play the titles. I have tried everything listed on the help pages to no avail. I can do everything else on the Wii that involves the internet with no problems so this must be a Netflix issue. Recently started having issues on the PS3 as well. I am definitely not happy about this.
Here's an Update. The last few days Netflix on the Wii has been fine. I did nothing to make this happen it just started to work well again. Maybe they heard us finally or the eclipse and solar flares are our friends!
mine has been working for a fews days now. guess they finally fixed their updates.
