Introduction
A smattering of problems can make using your Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player difficult. The player can fall victim to problems with Wi-Fi, audio and picture issues, and problems with the player's parental lock. Troubleshoot any problems you have with your Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player to see if you can resolve the problem on your own.
Wi-Fi Problems
You need to wait at least 30 seconds after activating your wireless connection on your Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player. If the wireless connection is set up to automatically connect after turning on the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player, you still need to wait 30 seconds before attempting to use apps that require an Internet connection. Also, if you try to use any of the apps on the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player and don't have an account with that service, such as Netflix, you will need to set up an account with that service before you can use the app.
Audio Problems
If you're not hearing the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player's audio through a connected surround sound system, there are a coupe of things you need to check: 1) Ensure the surround sound system is turned on and set to play audio from the input the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player is connected to. 2) The surround sound system may not be compatible with either the Bitstream or LPCM audio formats, which is how the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player outputs audio. You can see what audio formats your surround sound system supports by checking the surround sound system's manual. 3) Ensure that the surround sound systems audio is not muted or turned down all the way down. Alternatively, make sure the audio is not turned down or muted on the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player.
If the sound coming from the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player is distorted, turn the player's volume down. Alternatively, make sure the speakers are firmly connected to the outputs on both the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player and the external device. Also, check the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player's Audio Out settings in the player's Audio menu. If the Audio Out is set to Bitstream, try changing the audio to output in LPCM.
You will not be able to play an audio disc that contains WMA file unless the sample rate of the files is 44.1 kilohertz or 48 kilohertz. Alternatively, you won't be able to play MP3 files unless the sample rate of the files is 32, 44.1 or 48 kilohertz, and the bit rate is between 112 and 320 kilobytes per second.
Picture Problems
You won't see a high definition picture on the outputted screen if either the disc you are viewing doesn't have high definition video on it or the TV you are viewing the video on doesn't support it. If the video does have high definition video content and the TV supports high definition, you must connect the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player to the TV using a video cable that carries high definition video, such as an HDMI or component cable.
The picture could appear distorted if the video on the disc you're watching is low quality. Also, connecting the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player to another device and then connecting that device to a TV could distort the picture quality of content from the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player. Connect the Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player directly to the TV for the best possible picture. Adjusts your TV's aspect ratio; different aspect ratios such as zoom or wide mode can stretch the picture beyond its native resolution and make it appear distorted.
Forgot Parental Passcode
If you forgot the parental passcode that you set up or if someone else set up the parental passcode on your device, enter "4737" when prompted to clear the parental passcode from your device. You will need to set up the parental passcode again if you want certain aspects of your Magnavox MBP5220F Blu-ray player to be locked.

Hi Bryan,
Try restarting your wireless networks. Also, remove some of your other electronic devices that send and receive a signal away from your Blu-ray player. I'd also try using a different cable.
I don't if any of that will help, but it never hurts to try.
Best,
Max.
My blu-ray player is showing a fast network connection, yet doesn't allow much speed for netflix. I have a 12mbps internet connection that works great, yet videos play at .50 mbps... Everyone I contacted seems to think its something with the bluray player
Hi Tom,
I would apply the firmware that's available for the player from the Magnavox support site and see if that helps. Also, I know this can be a bit more tricky, but if it's possible, try moving your wireless router and Blu-ray player closer together. There are a variety of things that can slow down your wireless connection. I have a hub about it, but I don't think I can post the link in a comment. My hub is called How to Improve Your Wireless Signal.
Other than that, Netflix streaming can occasionally be a poor experience because of stuff Netflix is doing on its end, but that only slows it down for a few minutes and typically not for an extended period of time.
Hope that helps,
Max.
i am getting extreamly anoid with my blue ray player! i have tried several times to cnect to the internet with my wireless connection, yet i have gottin no where. it shows there are connections availabke so when i click on mine and put my password in it still does not work. what else can i do
Hi Melissa,
The problem may not be with your Blu-ray player. First, try powering down both your Blu-ray player and wireless router. Disconnect the power cable from your wireless router for 30 seconds to reset it and then reconnect it and power both devices back on and try connecting to the connection on your Blu-ray player again. If that doesn't work, try disconnecting your computer or other devices connected to the Wi-Fi from the Wi-Fi. Wait for 30 seconds and then try connecting your Blu-ray player again. If it works, your wireless service provider will only allow you to connect so many devices to the Wi-Fi network at one time.
Let me know if those suggestions don't work and I'll try and dig a bit deeper.
Best,
Max.
I have a magnavox mbf5220f/f7 and we can not get it to work with the hdmi cable on either of our tvs.
one tv is a vizio and the other is hisense. It will work with the av cables. Thanks for any help.
Hi Laura,
If it were just the Hisense TV, I would suggest that TV may not support the playback of HDCP content. However, I'm fairly certain that all Vizio TVs do support this. I would try using another HDMI cable to see if the cable you're using is defective. If that doesn't work, I'd say the HDMI output on the Blu-ray player is probably defective and needs to be replaced. I'd contact Magnavox to see if it's still under warranty.
I hope that helps.

Hi, the wifi in magnavox MBP5220f is not working. I have tried to disconnect the router and still doesnt work. When I go to the network setup the access point is not found but i have wifi working good in my computer and my cellphone. Appears to be the wifi in the blu ray that doesnt work. Please HELP!
And I have manually set up my Magnavox MBP5220F blu-ray dvd player for internet access and the connection test still fails.
How far away is the Blu-ray player from the router? If you live in a large house, it's possible that the Wi-Fi doesn't extend to where the Blu-ray player is. As I probably said in the article, lots of walls and other devices that send and receive a signal can also be a problem. If it's possible, try connecting the Blu-ray player to a TV closer to the router just to see if it gets a signal there. Try disconnecting one of your other wireless devices from the network to see if that resolves your problem. There may be a limit on the number of wireless devices that can be connected to your network.
Try disconnecting the Blu-ray player's power adapter, waiting for 30 seconds and then reconnecting it to reset the player. Try searching for your network again.
Let me know if any of that works and I'll think more on it. I'd also just check to make sure your manual settings you entered were correct.
Best,
Max.
all of a sudden my remote will not communicate with the player? i happen to have 2 players, therefore 2 remote... well both remote work fine on the one and neither work the other... so whats up? you basically need the remote to navigate. any help is appreciated... also i tried unplugging it to see if it would reset maybe and no luck.
Hi J,
It sounds like your remotes are fine, but the sensor may be damaged in some way on the player that isn't responding to the remote. If you can, exchange the device or contact Magnavox and see if your problem is covered by the manufacturer's warranty. If they won't do anything for you, a Magnavox-certified repair person may be your best bet -- but that could cost you.
Best,
Max.
the wifi is not working. I have tried to disconnect the router and still doesnt work. I enter the info again and again but nothing happens. Appears to be the wifi in the blu ray that doesnt work. Please HELP!
