Vizio E421VL, E470VL or E551VL LCD TV Troubleshooting
Introduction
Vizio class Vizio E421VL, E470VL or E551VL LCD TVs offer a 178-degree viewing angle, 120 hertz refresh rate, 100,000-to-1 contrast ratio and much more that adds up to a premium viewing experience. Problems with the Vizio E421VL, E470VL or E551VL model LCD TV can stem from various hardware and cable issues, in addition to problems with the settings on the Vizio LCD TV or with external devices. Most problems with the Vizio LCD TV can be resolved through the use of troubleshooting techniques.
"No Signal" Message
A "No Signal" error message displays on the screen if the Vizio E421VL, E470VL or E551VL LCD TV is not picking up a signal from an external device or channels over the air. 1) Make sure the correct input is selected to display on the LCD TV using the Input button on either the remote control or the Vizio TV. 2) If you have an antenna connected to the Vizio TV, scan for channels; if you don't scan for available channels, you won't have any on your Vizio LCD TV and no signal will be detected.
No Sound
If you are not hearing sound, the internal speakers on the Vizio E421VL, E470VL or E551VL LCD TV may not be turned on. Open the Vizio TV's main menu and then select "Settings." Select "Audio" and then ensure "On" appears to the right of TV Speakers. If this is set to "Off," no audio will be played through the Vizio TV's internal speakers. Alternatively, if you are not hearing audio associated with an external device, make sure the volume on the external device is turned up; if the audio is not turned up on that device, you won't hear any sound through the TV's speakers, regardless how high the volume is turned up. If you have external speakers connected, make sure the volume is turned up on that speaker system. If you're not hearing audio associated with a channel pulled in using an antenna, a secondary audio program (SAP) may be enabled, and if there is no secondary feed, you won't hear any audio. Open the Vizio E421VL, E470VL or E551VL LCD TV's main menu, select "Tuner" and then highlight "Analog MTS." Press the right circular button on the remote control and set the option to either Stereo or Mono.
Computer Problems
If you connected a computer to your Vizio E421VL, E470VL or E551VL LCD TV, the display may not fill the Vizio TV screen or even display for a variety of reasons. If the display doesn't appear, make sure that your external monitor configurations are set up appropriately and that your computer is set up to output its image to the Vizio LCD TV. You can do this in Windows 7 by pressing the "Windows" and "P" keys at the same time. If the Computer Only option is selected, the display won't appear on your TV; select any of the other options. Alternatively, your computer may be asleep or not turned on. Wake the computer up or turn the device on. If the computer's display is appearing on the LCD TV but doesn't fit the screen, you need to adjust the Vizio TV's horizontal and vertical positions. You can do this by opening the TV's main menu and then selecting "Picture Settings." Select "Size & Position" Within this section you can stretch and manipulate the display accordingly. Alternatively, if neither of these options work, check your computer's resolution. If your computer's resolution isn't supported by the Vizio E421VL, E470VL or E551VL LCD TV, the computer won't display properly. The Vizio E421VL, E470VL or E551VL LCD TV models support 640 by 480, 800 by 600, 1024 by 768, 720 by 400 and 1920 by 1080 computer resolutions. You can change your computer's display resolution through the Control Panel.
