Troubleshooting Acer Iconia Problems

Introduction

Common problems with the Acer Iconia tablet computer include audio and video files that don't play, image files that don't display, no sound coming from the built-in speaker, the device not turning on and failure to access the device because the user forgot the unlock pattern. Use troubleshooting to determine the cause of your problem, and whether it's a settings issue that you can resolve or a hardware issue that requires sending the device to the manufacturer for repairs.

No Sound From Acer Iconia

• Disconnect a set of headphones if there's one connected and you're not hearing sound from the tablet's internal speaker. If a set of headphone's is connected, you'll only hear sound from the headphones.
• Press the "Volume Up" button on the lower-right edge of the tablet to make sure the volume isn't turned down. Also, doing this will un-mute the volume in case it's muted.

Acer Iconia Won't Play Pictures, Music or Video

• The Acer Iconia only supports image playback for the following file types: JPEG, GIF, BMP and PNG. You may be able to load other types of image files to the tablet, but it won't be able to display them.
• The Acer Iconia only supports audio playback for the following file types: AAC-LC, AAC, AAC+, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, MP3, OGG Vorbis and WAV. You may be able to load other types of audio files to the Acer Iconia, but it won't be able to play them.
• The Acer Iconia only supports video playback for the following file types: H.264 BP, H.264 MP, H.264 HP, MPEG-4 SP and H.263. You may be able to load other types of video files to the Acer Iconia tablet, but it won't be able to play them.
• The file you're loading to your device may be a supported file type, but the file itself may be damaged. Try playing the file on other devices to see if you also experience problems. If the audio, picture or video you're trying to play or view was converted from a source file, try converting the source file again. After converting the file, try loading it to your Acer Iconia and seeing if the file plays.

Acer Iconia Doesn't Turn On

• The device's battery may be completely run down and need to be recharged. If the Acer Iconia battery is completely dead, don't be concerned if none of the charging indicators appear initially; it could take up to five minutes before any of the charging indicators appear if you're charging from a dead battery. Let the battery charge for at least a half an hour to make sure it has a moderate amount of power to function.
• Try using another AC outlet or power source in case the wall outlet or power source is not working correctly.
• Try using a different charging cable in case the cable you're currently using is damaged or defective.

Your Forgot the Unlock Pattern

• After so many wrong attempts, you'll be asked for the username and password of the Google account that's set up on the Acer Iconia tablet. If you enter the correct username and password, you'll be allowed to set up a new lock pattern. However, if you don't know the username and password of the Google account set up on the Acer Iconia tablet, the only way you'll be able to use the tablet again is if you reset it to its factory settings. If you have no other option but to reset your device to its factory settings, you can do so by doing the following:

1. Tap the "Settings" application in the Application Menu.
2. Tap "Privacy."
3. Tap "Factory Data Reset."
4. Tap "Reset Tablet."
5. Tap "Erase Everything." The Acer Iconia begins the process of restoring the device to its factory settings. The device will reboot one or two times during the reset process before finally booting up to the Welcome screen that asks you what language you want the device to operate in, similar to the way it did when you turned it on for the first time.
