Introduction

If you're experiencing problems with Internet Explorer 10, such as the Web browser being slow or not working correctly, try resetting the Web browser to see if that resolves your problems. Resetting Internet Explorer 10 essentially restores the Web browser to its default factory settings. You can reset Internet Explorer 10 from the Web browser's Tools menu.

Process for Resetting Internet Explorer 10

  1. Open Internet Explorer 10. This can be done in Windows 8 from the Start screen by clicking the "Internet Explorer" app tile.
  2. Click the "Tools" icon in the upper right corner of the IE 10 Web browser to open a drop-down menu. The Tools icon features the image of a gear, and is located next to the Home and Favorites icons, which feature the image of a house and star, respectively.
  3. Select "Internet Options" in the drop-down menu's third section. The Internet Options dialog box opens over the Internet Explorer 10 Web browser.
  4. Select the "Advanced" tab at the far-right side of the list of tabs at the top of the Internet Options dialog box.
  5. Click "Reset" in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings section at the bottom of the dialog box. The Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box opens on the screen.
  6. In addition to resetting the non-personal parts of the Internet Explorer 10 Web browser, such as privacy settings and security settings, click to place a check mark in the context box to the left of Delete Personal Settings to also clear your home pages, history, cookies and all of your other personal information.
  7. Click "Reset." The Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box will change to a smaller dialog box that displays the progress of the reset. After check marks appear to the left of all of the lines that appear in the smaller box, the reset is finished.
  8. Click "Close" in the dialog box to close the dialog box. The Internet Explorer 10 Web browser has now been successfully reset.
